Scrap Yarn Challenge: Bugs and Beasts

ELEPHANT RUG

If you'd like to make an elephant rug you've come to the right place! The rug uses the same knitting pattern as the Elephant Coaster in Bugs and Beasts, but the rug is knitted using super chunky yarn and big knitting needles!

RUG MATERIALS:

Stylecraft Special XL - Super Chunky
100%
acrylic, 136m per 200g

M - Main Colour - Silver x 6 balls
C - Contrast Colour - Cream x 100g

2 x 24mm black toy eyes and washers
15mm circular knitting needles
Toy stuffing
Darning needle

THE KNITTING NEEDLES: I recommend using circular knitting needles for this project. This project is not knitted in the round, but you will need the pair of circular needles with a cable to hold the stitches. This is because the amount of stitches on most of the rows won’t fit onto a pair of straight knitting needles. Use the circular needles in the same way as a straight pair of needles. The only difference is that the stitches are held on the cable between each needle.

THE YARN: When knitting this project you need to hold two strands of the yarn together using 15mm knitting needles. Knit from two balls of yarn at a time. This applies throughout the project.

TENSION: 6 stitches and 8 rows = 10cm x 10cm (4in x 4in) using two strands of the yarn held together on 15mm (US 13) knitting needles in stocking stitch. Please knit a tension swatch in M as you may need to adjust your tension. Sincerely Louise cannot provide extra yarn if this project is knitted in the incorrect tension.

PATTERN: Follow the pattern and sewing up instructions for the Elephant Coaster in Bugs and Beasts
