Part of my Welcome to the Urban Jungle collection, the magpie is knitted flat on straight needles using an acrylic and cotton-blend yarn. Simple shaping and colour changes create his distinctive plumage, making this a lovely project for knitters looking to spread their wings.

• Yarnsmiths Pebble Haze Aran – 2 balls of black, 2 balls of cream, 20g of grey and 25g of blue

• 60g toy stuffing

• 4 × 12mm black eyes with yellow rings and washers

• 5mm (US 8) knitting needles (optional)
