A few years ago Mr. Sincerely Louise gave me a 1970's Play School annual for Christmas. As I turned the pages I fell in love with it, the 70's aesthetic, the illustrations, the stories, games and activities. I kept thinking to myself, why has nobody done this with knitting. So I did.
Over the next year with the help of Eleanor and Octavia, my assistants in London, we made an annual for knitters. I designed the patterns, page layouts and took the photos, Octavia worked on all the illustration and set designs and Eleanor helped with anything and everything else.
A year later I self published the Knitter's Activity Book. A small print run was printed in Sheffield, where I'd just relocated to. At the Knitting and Stitching Show in London I was approached by Pavilion Books who asked if I'd like it published with them and I said yes please!
So here it is, the shiny new version of my book, The Knitter's Activity Book. It's the same book as the first edition, but with a lovely new name and an amazing publisher behind it.
The book contains 20 knitting patterns, alongside stories, games and puzzles and more! It's based on 1970s annuals, and includes a "find the fibre worksearch" and even a pub quiz for knitters.
There's some of my classic faux taxidermy patterns, like a giant elephants head, a set of mini farm heads, a crocodile rug and a lion skin coaster. There's also a set of toys that are part of a story, so you can follow Lola the Polar Bear's journey and then knit her and her friends.
